The accounting profession has probably gained the most in efficacy, with the introduction of computers, and more recently the introduction of the World Wide Web. Only 30 years ago, a multitude of book keepers was required to deal with the myriads of costs and payments. Now only a modest department is needed to manage the accounts of a large corporation. And it’s basically down to technology. With the introduction of spreadsheets and global accounting systems from companies like Oracle and SAP, accounting has truly been converted into an Internet Business.

Having said all that, accountancy continues to be one of the most reputable professions to enter, even if they now use spreadsheets and web based programs to count those beans.
