When starting out in a new career as an internet is entrepreneurit’s very important to set goals. You will greatly further your career opportunities if you often set yourself attainable goals and review the method of attaining these goals from time to time. Setting goals can also help you to cultivate new career ideas for your online business. Not everyone finds setting goals and attaining them easy but there are some helpful techniques that can help you to manage the countless business tasks that you will encounter along the way.

There are countless business tools that you can utilize to help with the setting of goals. One of the best can be described by using the following acronym GROW SMART. This stands for Goal Reality Option Wrap-up, and Smart stands for Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Time-related. So returning to GROW it begins with Goal, you need to consider the goal that you have set for your new career on the web. This may sound pretty obvious but until you know want it is you really want to achieve you have no starting point to begin with. Reality is all about where you are at present you must be realistic about your current situation. Options are the things that will help you to realize your goal or goals, there may be a lot of different ways to do this, so make a listof all the ones you can think of. Wrap-up puts a timeframe on the goal scenario meaning you have an end time to finish this goal or goals. This needs to be realistic but also compliant as there will be a range of problems to solve along the way.

Now looking at SMART you will personally need to be Specific about your goals they need to be clearly set out and specific, if your goals are too unclear so too will be your methods of attaining them. Don’t state “I want to get more clients”, what you need to state is “I will get 5 more clients by the end of the month”. Also they must be Measurable; you need to be able to quantify how well you are doing with your goals, without measurability you will not be able to tell when the goal has been finally achieved. So too the goals themselves must be Achievable, that is well within your own capability if not then you will just be setting yourself up for failure. Also they must be Relevant to your career opportunities. If you have a mission statement or a business plan the goals you set must correspond with these. Once again the goals must be Time-related if this is not in place then you will lose motivation because of having to long a timescale to realize each goal. Also with no end date or time you will lose any sense of urgency in completing your goal. If this happens you may neglect to see valuable career ideas and increase the likelihood of failing to realize your goal or goals.
