There are many factors which can affect what Career ideas you may have. Some factors are out of your control, whilst others are down to your individual wants and needs. Regardless of whether you are switching Careers or thinking about New careers, there are so many different factors to take into account it can at times be a little daunting trying to take everything into account. Here I am going to look into just a small selection of the aspects which can at times be a result of your own actions, and at times a result of things outside of your control.

One such thing is the ties you have with family and friends, either in your present job, or present location. Such ties can have an effect on what Career ideas you could have, as perhaps strong ties may prevent you from thinking about Careers which would call for you to move away from your family and friends. If you are thinking about New careers completely this might not be such a big problem for you – particularly if you’re a young graduate wanting to explore the world. In some cases you could be hoping to get away from the people around you, and meet new people, make new friends, and start over! It’s incredibly important that you take this seriously, as if you move away and you’re not ready for it, it can negatively affect you. I found out from experience – I was not ready to move home for university, but as the people around me was going I felt compelled to do it, so I went… turned out I detested it, couldn’t stand being there, and had to come back after a mere 6 weeks. So that was a massive waste of cash. I am pretty much a family person, so if you are too you might not want to move too far. Some individuals I know aren’t worried by this – in fact a friend of mine could not wait to get away from his mother!

Another thing that can affect what Careers you think about, which you may not think of at first, but it definitely is something that ought to be thought about, is the performance of the business at the time you are applying. For obvious reasons, you don’t want to be applying to a company that looks to be failing. Also, check the markets of whatever role you’re aiming for, make sure they seem stable. It is of course impossible to predict how markets will fair overtime, but by doing a little bit research beforehand you could save yourself a real headache later on. Also, by looking at how businesses are doing, you could even get yourself some new Career ideas in up and coming areas that you might not have heard of or considered before.

These are of course a very, very small sample of the several factors which can affect your Career ideas. The best assistance I can supply you with is to just make sure you think everything through thoroughly, and don’t make any rash selections. With thorough planning you can nearly guarantee you will make the right choice .
