Gum Disease- Don’t Wait Before it’s Too Late
It’s important to recognize gum disease symptoms early so you can get immediate dental treatment. A lot of people take oral health for granted, not knowing that serious consequences can result from being too lax. If you don’t act on the signs that you detect, you could lose your teeth permanently.
The reason why some people don’t take action right away is because the signs of oral problems aren’t always obvious. In a lot of cases, problems can progress to advanced and irreversible stages before clear indicators show up. The best way to make sure you get to keep your teeth is to recognize what you may not normally consider as periodontal disease symptoms.
Bad breath is only one of those seemingly harmless symptoms that you should watch out for. People may not suspect that something is wrong because bad breath can be caused by other factors such as food intake and poor oral hygiene. These causes however can be quickly addressed by brushing, gargling and flossing. Some breath mints also provide quick solutions. If bad breath persists though, you might reasonably suspect a more serious condition. Bad breath that keeps on coming back may indicate that bacteria are breeding around your gums. They will breed on unless you take more serious steps.
Unsuspecting individuals may also miss gum disease symptoms because they aren’t in dental pain. Pain however should not be used as an absolute indicator. Lots of people have gum problems that aren’t accompanied by pain at all. It is even possible for people to experience bleeding, swelling, gum reddening, receding gum lines and modified jaw alignment with very minimal pain. Take note though that the presence of these other symptoms alone should be treated as warning signs in themselves. Don’t wait for pain to come in before taking action.
Sensitivity to oral health is extremely vital because it is only at the early forms of periodontal disease symptoms that you can hope to avert severe damage. If a problem is spotted early, your dentist may only recommend mild medication plus a more disciplined approach to brushing and flossing. Of course, regular dental check-ups and dentist assisted cleanings can also be part of an early solution.
Advanced stages are dealt with using more advanced and expensive methods. Antibiotic intake may still be a part of the recommended treatment plan. Some patients however may have to go through scaling or root planning, tissue grafting and pocket reduction. Your dentist is the best authority on which solution will work best for your particular condition. In some cases however, complete rehabilitation may not always be possible, in which case, your best hope may lie in having yourself fitted for false teeth.
Gum disease symptoms don’t always bother to appear distressingly aggressive. This is all the more reason though to be mindful and watchful. If you have persistent bad breath and slight bleeding, ask a dentist for an assessment. These may or may not be indicators of a possible issue. You should however, be rather safe than sorry.
