What are linguists? A few probably suggest that of all the personal and biological diplomas granted that the field that we would be most mesmerized and capable in could be understanding man kind. But it is not easily discernible that Vietnamese to English Translation actually understand us as individuals very well. The illustrators weren’t the first to see that, of the countless question in the history of the world, we linguists are perhaps the most hidden of all to the people we know. Even the technical fields, for the amount of their cleverness in a number of respects, won’t assist our kind effectively enough to recognize transparently the habits of our kind. Or so I believe. The social fields are good at illustrating and analyzing translator responses, morals and institutions. But that is not similar to knowing linguists per se, what we are, our code and condition. I will argue in the blogs that come that the analytical studies have been often unhelpful in our journey for enlightenment as a special sort of well being. This seems to others of our own design, languages. I also spot several in translation theory who are particularly happy to be committed such questions. Perhaps the mystery we are to ourselves makes us uneasy. Perhaps the question seems too non analytical. However the wise have challenged us since the start of time in different instances with the warning, “Know Who you are.” This I live to do.
